Today, I put together coastal living room mood board design. By focusing on light, airy aesthetic for the design I was able to create a coastal living room mood board to give you inspiration for your home!
Choose the Right Colors
Color is such an important part of any design, especially for a coastal space. To make this coastal living room feel light and breezy I chose light blues, rustic woods and soft creams.
Feeling the Blues
Blue is one of my favorite colors to include in coastal living spaces. I would almost venture to say most coastal designs aren’t complete without a light blue hue. I decided on a light blue plaid rug from Serena and Lily as a base of blue. The wide blue in stripes in the Balboa Wood Base Swivel Chair from Pottery Barn compliments the rug and draws in the eye. Lastly, in my collection of blue hues, I selected a light blue pillow cover from Etsy to break up the cream tones of the sofa.
Know the Best Wood
Choosing the correct wood tone for your coastal living room is everything! I love a variety of light, airy wood tones for a coastal design, but for this one I decided to go with rustic, medium-brown driftwood-inspired woods. First, I brought this into the design with the coffee table. The Palisades Square Reclaimed Wood Coffee Table from Pottery Barn is perfect for this space because it is exactly the color I wanted in this room. The Scout Display Cabinet from Pottery Barn is a perfect addition to this room because it is the perfect color to go with the other wood elements in the space.
Pick the Perfect Textures
For this design I wanted a mixture of textures. I wanted to incorporate soft, smooth textures with wood and metal. The majority of textures in this space are soft.
Add Softness for a Light Airy Feel
I love the texture of this Remy Slipcovered Sofa from Wayfair. Additionally, the airiness of the European Linen Flax Curtains from West Elm adds a light and breezy vibe to the space. I chose these curtains to let in natural light and give the room a coastal feel. Lastly, I decided on lush pillows to soften the design and add beach-house atmosphere. Three different colored and textured pillows accomplishes the balanced look I am going for. I selected a Neutral Stripe Pillow, a Brown Woven Stripe Pillow, and a Blue Velvet Pillow. I love Etsy for pillows! They have a great selection!
Bring in the Coastal Character
To balance out the softness of the space it is important to use wooden pieces. No coastal room is complete without wood! I already discussed how I selected the perfect wood tones to create this coastal living room modo board. However, I can’t stress enough how much I love the texture of the Palisades Square Reclaimed Wood Coffee Table. The distressed texture of this wood give the space a rustic, wave-lapped character. Everything at the beach has a weathered feel and this coffee table helps set the tone. Coastal design also benefit from wicker or seagrass! I settled on the Onslow Handwoven Round Decorative Tray from Crate and Barrel. This decorative tray adds so much character and charm to the design! Lastly, I chose a Wooden Tripod Lamp from Visual Comfort to add some earthiness and rustiness to the space.
Don’t Forget the Metal
To finish this coastal living room mood board, I opted to include some metallic elements. I opted for an Antique Brass Iron Taper Candle Set from Amazon. The antique style and brass finish gives the coffee table a unique, sophisticated, yet relaxed feel. I also brought in brass with the Element End Table from Wayfair. I love the way the brass finish plays with the soft fabrics and rustic character of the wood.
