Primary Bedroom Decor Mood Boards
Today, I am going to share with you four mood boards I have created. I created these design to be an intimate and budget-friendly primary bedroom replete with décor to ensconce you in comfort. Whether you are starting from scratch or giving your bedroom a refresh, these ideas can help you design your own dreamy retreat.
OPTION 1:
Upholstered Bed | Nightstands | Occasional Chair | Side Table | Rustic Bench | Rug | Curtains | Olive Pillow | Beige Pillow | Cream Pillow | Olive Tree
A home’s primary bedroom should be a relaxing place to unwind – a private getaway that evokes a sense of tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of the world. This peaceful bedroom suite features a soothing color palette and serene décor. It’s a perfect place for relaxing at the end of a busy day.
Create Drama with Contrast
The streamlined profile of this trendy, wingback bed – available in sizes from twin to California king – is hand upholstered in abundant padding and neutral linen textile for the perfect combination of elegance and comfort. In contrast, the light-colored bed is symmetrically flanked by two dark nightstands. They add heft to the space. In addition to beauty, the nightstand’s drawers provide an easy way to store remote controls, reading glasses, phone chargers, and other items.
Layer Textures for Interest
In contrast to the polished finishes of the other elements in this design, I chose to introduce a rustic accent to the room by adding a natural, weathered-wood bench at the foot of the bed. It’s the perfect place to tie your shoes, toss an extra blanket, or stack accent pillows at night.
Adding this cozy, down-filled occasional chair and mixed-material side table to the primary bedroom is an inventive way to extend the living space of your home. This create an inviting place other than the bed to read, enjoy a nightcap, or just unwind.
The nuance of bright whites and soft creams, punctuated by darker wood elements and deep-hued textiles, combine to create an overall restful aura throughout this master bedroom. Paring crisp, white sheets with a washed-linen duvet creates an effortlessly chic appearance and ultimate luxury feel. Also, the addition of ceiling-to-floor curtains with blackout lining provides total-room darkening.
Enhance the Colors
The shades of white throughout the room are balanced with the olive green, chocolate brown, and tan in the accent pillows and rug. I particularly enjoy the hearty texture of this color palette. The pillow derives its rich hues from Indian artisans. They hand dye and spin the wool sourced from local shepherds. The ivory and harvest beige geometric pillows on the bed are repeated on the accent chair. This unites the room and adds a Bohemian touch to the overall design.
Add the Finishing Touches
Plants are not reserved for living areas only. In fact, adding greenery to a bedroom is the perfect way to incorporate an organic texture and reduce stress. This faux olive tree is the perfect way to add architectural interest and dimension without the mess of a live plant. The stately tree, measuring 82” tall, provides vertical accent with delicate, lifelike silk leaves and natural stems. Finally, for a soft touch underfoot, I chose a muted Egyptian-made area rug with neutral tones to enrich the restful aura of the room.
OPTION 2:
Mixed-Medium Bed | Nightstands | Chairs | Hourglass Table | Ribbed Lamps | Woven Cubes | Rug | Curtains | Tribal Print Pillows | Gray Floral Pillow | Olive Tree
Regardless of the size of your master bedroom or the extent of your budget, you can create a cozy primary bedroom where you can rest and luxuriate. The symmetrical arrangement in this Parisian-inspired design lays the foundation for creating a rich yet restful aesthetic. I hope this mood board helps you create your own private sanctuary brimming with comfy bedding and tranquil style.
Create Symmetry
I love the details on this modern, mixed-medium bed that elegantly unites the softness of upholstery with the architectural underpinnings of wood. The combination of the chic, beige linen upholstery and pewter-finished wood is the perfect marriage of color. It also adds a wonderful texture in the focal-point of the room.
Including matching pewter nightstands adorned with a pair of sculptural lamps is an easy, no-fail way to achieve peaceful symmetry and complete the eye-catching assemble. These nightstands offer elegance and practicality with an attractive, curved base and single drawer for easy access to bedside items. The nightstands, which are finished in a wire-brushed greige – a unique color between gray and beige – beautifully unite the muted tones in the room’s décor and adds intrigue.
Unify the Room
Lighting is one of the most impactful and affordable design elements in any room, and it is vital in creating a gentle, inviting ambiance in a bedroom. In keeping with the symmetrical theme of this design, I chose two earthenware table lamps with ribbed texture and distinctive shape to infuse the space with functional form and added dimension.
For added drama, consider emphasizing the vertical space of your room. The restrained color palette of the artwork hung above the headboard in this design enhances the room’s focal point while preserving the soft, minimalist impression of the space.
The tranquility and sophistication in this design emanates from the repetition of the fresh, relaxed hues of gray and white throughout the room. Incorporating layers of varied textures and shapes gives the subdued colors life. For example, the traditional pattern in the gray and off-white floral pillow placed against the backdrop of a tribal-pattern pillows provides the ideal textural juxtaposition of styles while subtly uniting the colors of the room.
Designate Zones
Create intrigue by defining a dedicated sitting area that serves as a private living room. Adding a pair of comfortable chairs and a simple table visually creates a distinct zone within the room while preserving the benefits of an open design. The key to creating cohesiveness is building a color story that works across the entire room.
This mood board features the swivel chairs upholstered in a casual linen fabric. The chairs are not only comfortable, but their small-scale design makes them the prefect choice in a bedroom setting. The hourglass, concrete-finish table in the middle adds visual interest and offers an inviting area to relax, talk, and unwind after a long day. And, repeating Bohemian-style accent pillows from the bed unifies the space.
Add Softness
Nothing creates the look and feel of a five-star setting like crisp white, high-thread count sheets. These sheets from the Mellanni collection are not only affordable, but they also add the ultimate touch of luxury to your room. The breathable microfiber fabric is silky to the touch and helps with body temperature regulation. Most importantly, the deep pockets provide a snug fit, resist wrinkles, and stay in place.
The primary bedroom is the one place where you are likely to walk barefoot, so don’t neglect the floor in your design plan. In this room, I chose a low-pile rug that can be used over any floor type, from wood to carpet. The subdued colors in this modern, classic rug beautifully tie together the soft tones of the furniture and textiles to add warmth and dimension to the overall design.
Vary Textures
Introducing unexpected texture into a room design creates visual movement and broad appeal. Two natural wicker cubes woven in an interesting checkerboard pattern are placed at the foot of the bed to lend distinct shape and dimension to the space and serve as a place to put on shoes or toss a towel.
Adding floor-to-ceiling curtains creates visual height, creates privacy, and filters light in the room. A wall of draperies can create a serene backdrop and add elegance while unifying the space. These light-colored, linen curtains are not only beautiful, but they are made of heavyweight fabric with a 90 percent blackout lining – the perfect choice for optimal sleeping conditions.
Finally, add a touch of Mediterranean texture and vertical interest with this seven-foot-tall, silk olive tree. The realistic branches and soft-green leaves mimic the characteristics of a live olive tree and brings a touch of nature inside without concern for sunlight or water.
OPTION 3:
Canopy Bed | Nightstands | Chairs | Lamps | Rug | Jacquard Pillows | Tan Pillows |
| Linen Duvet | Oil Painting
Who wouldn’t want to come home to a bedroom filled with luxury and comfort after a long day at work? This master bedroom design with a dramatic four-poster bed, plush armchairs, and a large area rug includes all the elements to turn the bedroom of your dreams into reality.
Bring on the Drama
If you love the charm and wow factor of a canopy bed but think your primary bedroom is not large enough to accommodate one, think again. The dramatic height and clean lines of this modern canopy bed maximizes vertical space. However, the slim profile of the bed frame creates the perception of openness in this minimalistic room.
In this design, the stately bed is well-appointed with layers of bedding in saturated colors and varied textures. I tucked the bedding tightly for a modern take on the bed’s historically regal style. The deep tones of the duvet and blanket pop against the bright white luxury sheets. Thus, creating a haven that would make anyone feel like royalty.
Add Some Comfort
Luxury pillows in vintage olive green and harvest gold further elevate the richness of the overall design and beckon for relaxation. A pair of fluffy swivel occasional chairs in light-colored linen upholstery placed at the foot of the bed creates a comfortable and stylish area to escape the worries of the day.
The dark distressed wood nightstands reflect the rich tones of the bedding. They also provide ample storage of bedroom items in three large drawers. Finally, an area rug in muted colors anchors the room and completes the elegant motif.
OPTION 4:
Wingback Bed | Feather-Filled Chair | Nightstands | Plaid Pillows | Striped Pillow | Knit Throw | Lamps | Wicker Basket | Side Table | Wood Bench | Olive Tree | Rug
Primary bedrooms should be designed with luxury and comfort in mind. However, unfortunately, bedrooms are often furnished with a mishmash of tired, leftover items. I have designed this mood board with carefully curated décor and largely monochromatic color palette. This master bedroom room mood board is replete with texture and tonal interest to help you create a relaxing sanctuary.
Strive for Serenity
This design explores the serene monochromatic side of design starting with Benjamin Moore’s Chantilly Lace (bright white) and Calm (off-white) as the inspiration colors for this room. The minimalist color palette creates a clean, airy environment that works particularly well in smaller rooms.
Tone-on-tone textiles and light wood accents contrast with the one dark green pop of color found on the accent pillows in this otherwise cool, fresh getaway. Layering accent pillows with varied patterns and textures is essential in adding interest. They are also perfect for adding cohesiveness to a monochromatic design.
The low-profile bed upholstered in a solid linen fabric lends to the room’s minimalist aesthetic, and the bright-white bedding creates a refreshing Scandinavia feel. In contrast, the Moroccan-inspired throw introduces an unexpected texture, creating a warmer environment.
Complement the Design
Complement your bed with a bench. In this design, I chose a rough-hewed bench to contrast rustic elements of raw wood against the refined fabrics throughout the room. It also adds a layer of dimension and historical charm. Conversely, the low-pile rug in tonal ivory and beige effectively adds a sophisticated texture. Yet, it also maintains the room’s monochromatic serenity.
An appropriately scaled bedroom chair and simple side table provides a cozy place to unwind. This feather-filled swivel chair is not only comfortable, but it is the perfect complement to the hues and textures throughout this design.
Pale-wood nightstands arranged symmetrically serve double-duty. They provide shelves and drawers to ensure clutter is out of site. Handmade wicker baskets on the nightstand shelves add a warm, natural texture. Additionally, they provide even more storage to help maintain a serene, clutter-free environment.
Finish Strong
Ambient lighting from the warm glow of a lamp is one of the best ways to create an inviting atmosphere. These side lamps add vertical height to the room’s design. They also serve a practical purpose for nighttime reading. These natural specked lamps in this design are affordable and beautiful.
Finally, adding this faux olive tree lifts the eye. Thus, bringing an earthy texture and creating a serene nature of well-being and composure.
